Eaton

Harrop Engineering Australia is the official aftermarket distributor for Eaton in most of the Southern hemisphere.

The two companies share a synergy in Research and development. Harrop Engineering is able to work with Eaton in designing the parameters required for local superchargers. Technical assistance from the USA means that Harrop Engineering is able to perfect a locally designed, manufactured and assembled supercharger suitable for the Australian series of engine configurations.

A bi-lateral engineering platform now exists between the two companies which has cemented the continuous improvement path for Aftermarket Supercharger Technology.

Eaton Corporation is a diversified industrial manufacturer with 2004 sales of $9.8 billion. Eaton is a global leader in fluid power systems and services for industrial, mobile and aircraft equipment; electrical systems and components for power quality, distribution and control; automotive engine air management systems, power train solutions and specialty controls for performance, fuel economy and safety. Eaton has 55,000 employees and sells products to customers in more than 125 countries.

Once known as a vehicle components supplier, Eaton has diversified to include a broader industrial and commercial focus. Today, Eaton's businesses comprise of four distinct segments: Fluid Power, Electrical, Automotive and Truck.

Automotive
Eaton's automotive segment, with sales of $1.8 billion in 2004, is a partner to the passenger car and light-truck industry. Principal products include superchargers, engine valves, valve train components, cylinder heads, locking and limited slip differentials, sensors, actuators, intelligent cruise control systems, tire valves, fluid connectors, decorative body mouldings and spoilers.

Superchargers
More than 300,000 new vehicles roll off the line each year with Eaton superchargers. And at the starting line, vehicles with Eaton superchargers accelerate faster and smoother. Traditionally used in racing and performance cars, the Eaton, Roots style supercharger is now being used to bring the benefits of increased torque to drivers of all vehicles while often reducing fuel consumption.

The Eaton supercharger provides improved horsepower and torque at lower engine RPMs by pumping extra air into the engine in direct relationship to crankshaft speed. Drivers feel more immediate power when accelerating from a stop or passing on the highway, unlike turbochargers, which use the flow of exhaust gases to spin up to speed.

Typically used in larger capacity engines, Eaton superchargers are offered as original equipment and also have a significant presence in the automotive aftermarket. The Holden Ecotech V6 uses an Eaton rotating group.

Harrop Stealth Superchargers also use an Eaton rotating group. Harrop R&D working in collaboration with the Eaton aftermarket group has designed the Stealth Supercharger which is now in production.
