TUNDRA

CHAPTERS:   POWERTRAIN    DRIVELINE / SUSPENSION    STYLING

Our Engineering team had one thing on their mind when we imported our Toyota Tundra Platinum Edition from the United States and that was boost! Our Tundra wasn’t a member of our fast fleet for long but still managed to leave its mark for more than just its sheer size and seamless 5.7L 3UR-FE V8 Petrol Engine.

Straight from the box the Toyota Tundra is a capable tourer with great road manners and a spacious cabin for its passengers, with almost limo size rear doors and seats. Although challenging to drive around the narrow roads of inner-city Melbourne, the Tundra came into its own when cruising on the highway and regional roads! Weighing in at just over 2600kgs it was glaringly obvious a more powerful and responsive performance package would transform the overall driving experience. Our R&D team wasted no time, as we also looked at some subtle driveline and styling enhancements to help make the latest member of our fleet look its part.

Our team has designed and manufactured a range of Supercharger Kits utilising Eaton’s largest, most efficient R2650 rotating assembly since its release. We leveraged this experience when packaging a Supercharger System for the Toyota Tundra and are proud of the results with a 58% gain in peak power and 25% increase in torque.  Fuel supply and delivery was a development area and was solved with the addition of a high-flow fuel pump and an increase in fuel pressure enabled our Stage 1 System on the 2018 Tundra to work really well. High flow injectors are also available for the early trucks with custom calibration required to support for fuel and more boost for more performance with Stage 2.

Looking beyond our Supercharger Kit development, one of the first modifications we made to our Toyota Tundra was fitting a Level Kit to the front end. This perfectly balanced out the ride height and improved the overall stance of the truck!

Our team also fitted a prototype Rear Harrop ELocker to further enhance the Toyota Tundras off-road capability, allowing the truck to nurse up crests with 100% of available torque distributed to each axle instead of relying on entry speed offroad when tackling obstacles.

One thing we never loved were the plain-Jane factory wheels on the Platinum Edition Tundra, which gave us the perfect excuse to fit a set of Method ‘Grid’ Wheels and Toyo Open Country RT Tyres. The gunmetal grey wheels and black outers with exposed hardware give the Tundra a tough look in 18”x9” with 285/65R18 aggressive all-terrains with street and off-road capability and really help it stand out from the crowd.
